It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Tabitha Marie Googoo (Dennis), on June 25, 2025, at the age of 51. She passed peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving children and family.
Born on November 13, 1973, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Mabel Dennis and Kenzie Marshall.
Tabitha had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for her family. A proud homemaker, she devoted her life to caring for her loved ones and remained deeply connected to her Mi’kmaq culture and language. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and especially adored spending time with her grandchildren. Tabitha was a resident of Kiknu Nursing Home for one year, as well as the Cove Guest Home, where she loved being around the other residents and appreciated the kindness and care of the CCA staff.
She loved to dress up, do her make-up and hair, and could often be found watching her favourite TV show, The Simpsons.
Tabitha is survived by her loving children: Mary Virginia Paul (Sylvester), Joseph Francis Googoo (Leandra), Charles Googoo Jr., Andrew Googoo, and Darren Googoo. She was a devoted grandmother to Houston, Sylvester Jr., Iverson, Joseph, and Ivy, all of Eskasoni. She also leaves behind her godchildren, Wynter Dennis and Nitara Dennis, and her godparents, Walter Johnson and Harriet Marshall.
She is also survived by her siblings: Glenda, Perry (MaryLou), Robin (Randy), Becky, Levi (Phelicia), John, Connie (Hubert), Vicki (Simon), Dawn (Paddy), and Christopher, all of Eskasoni; Andrea (Calvin) and Nikkita (Shane) of Membertou; Paul Jr. (Zoe), Kyanne, and Thomas of Potlotek.
Also left to mourn are her aunts and uncles: Paula, Joyce, Wendy, Peggy, and Lyndon; and her in-laws: Priscilla, Bridget, Carleen, Anita, Melissa, Darren, Vernon, and Allan.
Tabitha was predeceased by the love of her life and husband, Charles James Googoo Sr.; her maternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Jane Dennis; paternal grandparents, James and Mary Ellen Marshall; in-laws, Samuel Joseph and Virginia Googoo; nephews, Rayne and Baby Jeffrey; and her brothers Duncan, Mikey, Joshua, Dale, and Michael M. She was also predeceased by her aunts and uncles: Lena, Denise, Steven, Joe Noel, Perry, Clayton, Muldoon, Athanasius, Allister, and Ann.
Tabitha will be remembered for her kind heart, her strength through hardship, her deep love for family and community, and her beautiful smile and laugh that we will forever miss.
Visitation will take place at the Gabriel Centre in Eskasoni on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.Funeral Mass and burial will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.
