Theresa Mary Kozera

Born in Sydney, Theresa was the daughter of the late John Joseph Tobin and Viola (Lamont). She was the youngest and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Theresa is lovingly remembered and survived by her children: Peter (Louise) Kozera, Betty Anne Bourgeois, Wendy (Mike) Mombourquette, Theresa (Brian) Johnston, and Donnie (Cathy) Kozera. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Amanda, Peter, Michael, Anthony, Jeffrey, Jillian, Scott, Stephanie, and Sydney, and a cherished great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren.

She spent most of her life in Whitney Pier, where she built a home filled with love alongside her husband and children. Later in life, she moved to the Tower Heights apartments, where she truly enjoyed her time and formed many lasting friendships.

Theresa found joy in the simple things—reading, sharing stories, and welcoming visitors. Whether it was a cup of tea, a few treats, or a good conversation, she made everyone feel at home. Even during her illness, she treasured time spent with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; her parents; and her son-in-law, Francis “Frank” Bourgeois, with whom she shared a special bond. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Dorothy, Henrietta, Virginia, Vincent, Edward, Lawrence, Mary, George, Theodore, Norbert, and Rose.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mariette Tobin, and her daughter, Carol Tobin, as well as many nieces and nephews.

With heartfelt gratitude, we thank caregivers Janice and Anne, Dr. Francis D’intino and her team, as well as the Palliative Care team and staff at the Cancer Centre and Hospice Cape Breton, for the compassion, comfort, and dignity shown to Mom in her final weeks. The Hospice treated her like family, for which we will always be deeply thankful.

Visitation will take place on Friday, May 1st from 10am until 12pm and the Funeral Service will follow at 12:00pm all from TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Father Paul Murphy officiating. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting twcurry.com.
