Betty Demedicis Lackey Milam, age 90, passed away on December 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Maggie Demedicis, her husband Jewel L. Lackey, her husband William L. "Bo" Milam, and her sister, Jo Demedicis Cotton. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Lackey Bentley (Mike) of Montgomery, granddaughters, Kristin Bentley Smith (Andrew) of Montgomery, Kathryn Ashley Bentley of Birmingham, great grandchildren, Ashley Armstrong Smith and William Laurens Smith of Montgomery.
Betty graduated from Sylacauga High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Jacksonville State University. She taught at BB Comer School for over 30 years where she made lasting relationships with both her fellow teachers and many students she taught through the years. She especially enjoyed her role as cheerleader sponsor and was involved in many aspects of the school.
As much as she enjoyed teaching, Betty was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She excelled in her role as Sweetie, as she was called by her husband and grandchildren. If you met her she probably told you she was Sweetie and all about what her grandchildren were up to. Betty was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a long-time member of Mignon United Methodist Church in Sylacauga where she held various leadership positions and sang in the choir for many years. She loved to praise the Lord through song and enjoyed singing hymns of praise even in her last days after she lost most of her memories.
The family is grateful to the caregivers at John Knox Manor in Montgomery for their compassionate and loving care of Betty.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mignon United Methodist Church, PO Box 1273, Sylacauga, Al. 35150.
