Donny Lewis Hurst passed away peacefully with loving family by his side on January 7, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 26, 1949 in Sylacauga, Alabama to Douglas Manning Hurst and Mary Elizabeth Hurst, he grew up alongside his brother (Eugene) and sister (Joann) in Fayetteville, Alabama.
He is survived by his adoring daughters Dianna Campbell (Mike), Elizabeth Hurst, his beloved grandchildren Allen Goss (Taylor), Mac Trammell, Alayna Goss, Austin Goss, Maggie Blade, Sadie Blade and his brother Eugene Hurst (Myrtis).
He was proud of many things in his life from serving in the United States Air Force, to watching his two girls grow up but nothing surpassed his proudest achievement of being Papa to his six grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was guiding his children and grandchildren, supporting them, choosing each day to give unconditional love and leading by example in his walk with God. Papa was a fixture of strength, stability, and unwavering love. His Big Al (Allen), Willie Mac (Mac), Sally Ann (Alayna), Leroy (Austin), Maggie Mae (Maggie), and Billie Bob (Sadie) were his greatest joy and source of strength. Each were blessed with memories of the antics, lessons, stories and adventures they shared. His daughters are left with grateful hearts for the father he chose to be.
A memorial service will be held at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, 1315 Talladega Hwy in Sylacauga on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 11 to 1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests potted shrubs or fruit trees to be planted as a living memorial at his home.
