It is with love & sadness that we announce that Harrison L. Hughes, of Childersburg, AL, better known as Harry, passed away in his home on Saturday, September 14, 2025 at the age of 83. He was born January
11, 1942 in Fairfield, AL. Harry was a very friendly, outgoing and happy person. He made friends wherever he went. He retired from Kimberly - Clark and Resolute after many years of service.
Many people in the area knew him from his "Harry's Camper Sales" business that he began in his retirement. He called his customers "his friends" and they would call on him through the years for advice on purchases and problems with campers. He knew the answer or would help answer their questions 99% of the time.
He was a faithful member and led the building and grounds committee for many years at The First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. He loved landscaping and fixing things and there was not much he could not fix in his home or at the church.
He was predeceased by his parents Lee Roy Hughes and Effie Mae Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan Hughes, his daughter Leigh Ann Fleagle, husband Bill Fleagle - his grandchildren Joshua, Jonathan, wife Ashley, Elena and Juliana Fleagle- two sisters, Edith Bassett and Linda Cummings, husband Harris Cummings.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, Sylacauga, AL on Wednesday September 17 with visitation at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. and burial at Currie Jefferson in Hoover later that day with family attending.
Pallbearers will be Bill Fleagle, Joshua Fleagle, Jonathan Fleagle, Gary Bassett, Dustin Cummings, Travis Fields, and Dennis O'Brien. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class.
