Howard Vernon Barton

Funeral service for Mr. Howard Vernon Barton, age 74 of Rockford, will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church at 12:30 PM. Mr. Barton will lie-in-state at the Church from 11:30-12:30. Burial will follow at Andrews Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7 from 6-8 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, Sylacauga.

Mr. Barton was born February 28, 1941 in Summerton, TN. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State in 1964 and later graduated from Jones Law School in 1973. He was founder and owner of Barton Ridge Plantation and Hunting Club in Rockford, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Barton and 8 siblings. Howard was a loving husband, father, and granddad. He was successful in many business ventures ranging from the insurance industry to the Barton Ridge Plantation Wingshooting Lodge in Rockford, AL. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing especially with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hanzlian Barton; children, Peggie Barton Clouse (Paul), Howard "Rowdy" Barton II (Margaret), Michael Hoover (Kimberly), Jason Hoover, MD (Donna) and Melissa Sherman; grandchildren, Drew Hoover (Meridith), Hannah Hoover, Hamp Hoover, Jake Hoover, Delaney Clouse, Josie Barton, Jarrett Hoover, Coleman Barton, Caitlyn Clouse, Jackson Hoover, Parker Mays and Paxton Mays; sisters, Violet Boswell, Elaine Fly and Goldie Farrelly.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Sylacauga will direct the service.
