

Janet Corn, age 81, of Helena, AL, formerly Talladega, AL, passed away August 6, 2024. She was born on January 27, 1943 to James Tandy Lackey and Edith Juanita (Shepherd) Lackey. She grew up in Sylacauga, AL and graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1961.
Janet worked 21 years at Alabama Power in Birmingham, retiring in 1998. She loved painting, sewing and growing beautiful orchids. After retirement, she pursued jewelry making, wire wrapping and glass fusion. Janet and late husband David Corn together owned a rock and gem business, and spent many happy hours in their motorhome traveling to rock shows and teaching their crafts at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts in Young Harris, GA.
Janet was preceded in death by parents James and Juanita Lackey, and husband David Corn. She is survived by brother: Jim Lackey and wife Barbara; and children: Michael Dees Jr. and wife Tonya, and Sheila Dickerson and husband Michael. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Taylor Simmons and husband Patrick, Garrett Dees and wife Jessica, Jack Dickerson, Alexander Dickerson, and Owen Dickerson; and three great-children: Calvin Simmons, Lillie Simmons and Owen Robinson-Wu.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to caregiver Janice Miller and to Affinity Hospice for their unconditional support, love and care for Janet during her illness.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, AL. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Janet’s memory.
