Heaven gained a worshiper and the earth lost a matriarch. Kathy Renee Finn, age 65 was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Kathy was born in Sylacauga, Alabama to Pearl Isbell and Carlton Isbell.
Kathy grew up in Sylacauga and graduated with pride from B.B. Comer High School, Class of 1978. Shortly after, she married the love of her life, Michael E. Finn. Together they built a life and marriage that spanned 45 years. A union marked by devotion, laughter, and a love that endured through every season.
Kathy's proudest role was being "Mom". Kathy is survived by her husband, Michael Finn; her daughter Ashleigh Finn; and her son Trae Finn (Talia); her sister Carlette Milam (Tracy) and her brother Tony Isbell (Bobbie); her grandchild Grayson Finn, her grandchild Collins Roberts and her grandchild Stetson Finn.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father Carlton Isbell and her mother Pearl Isbell; her brother Rodney Isbell; her grandmother Elsie "Maw" Bailey, and her grandfather William Eugene Bailey.
Kathy's home was always filled with the aroma of home cooked meals and the sound of family gathered close. Kathy had a gift for making every holiday, every dinner, and every ordinary afternoon into a celebration of love and togetherness. Around her table, stories were shared, laughter echoed, and memories were made that will be cherished forever. Kathy loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family. Whether it was a big Sunday dinner, a camping trip, or out fishing her husband Mike. Each trip seemed to end with a whopper jr or ice cream. She had a way of turning everyday moments into lifelong memories, always reminding her family that joy could be found in the little things.
She was the best of friends to her sister, Carlette Milam, and her brother, Tony Isbell, and her sister-in-law Cindy Justice. Her bond with them was one of life's sweetest blessing. Their shared memories, jokes, and steadfast support for one another were a testimony to what family truly means.
Her hands were skilled and strong--working first as a seamstress at Russell and later at her mother's small business, The Drapery Shop. She also devoted her time to the Sylacauga School System as a substitute teacher, nurturing children in the same halls where her own walked. But it was never her work that defined her. It was her faith, her love, and the way she gave herself to others.
Kathy was old-time religion, her life's soundtrack was an old gospel hymn. She had faith that carried her through life's hardest storms. She was the salt that preserved, the light that guided, the glue for her family. Her life was a living sermon. She reminded us that the Bible is not just words to read but a way to live, and she saw every encounter with a friend or stranger as a chance to point someone toward Jesus. She was every bit of matriarch, faithfully honoring God in her calling to steward her family toward Him.
Her life was a testimony of faith, and because of that, there is no doubt where she is now. The assurance of her salvation is the anchor holding us steady in this storm. Yet her passing is not only a comfort, it is a commission. Kathy's race is finished, but ours is not. The mantle she carried of faith, of love, of steadfast devotion, now rests on us. The question is not if she reached Heaven, but whether we will rise to the call she left behind: to walk as she walked, to believe as she believed, to love as she loved.
Kathy leaves behind more than memories. She leaves a legacy of faith, laughter, and love that will echo through campfires, dinner tables, and family gatherings for generations to come.
A visitation for Kathy will be held Friday, September 26, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, Sylacauga, Alabama. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home. Kathy will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. All services will be officiated by Pastor David Bearden.
Serving as pallbearers are Brent Milam, Brandon Milam, Trae Finn, Lucas Milam and Will Milam.
