
Julia Marie Sims Floyd passed away on October 14, 2016 while in the loving care of the staff of the Coosa Valley Nursing Home. Born on December 27, 1919 in Coatopa, AL in Sumter County, she was the youngest of eight children born to Martha and John Sims. She is preceded in by her parents and sisters Eula Durbin (Marshall), Gladys Scales (Will T), Cloy Reid (Desmond), Flora Ormond (Dolph), Evelyn Larkin (Hugo), Johnnie Scott (Billy) and a brother Mack Sims (Fannie Mae). She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Chris Floyd and great granddaughter Haley Jones. Lastly, she lost her husband Udie (U.H.) Floyd in 2007. She is survived by her sons Jim Floyd (Melba) and John Floyd (DeAnn); granddaughters, Julia Jones (Kristen), Elizabeth Caine (Taylor); grandson, Kris Jones; great grandson, John Patrick Jones; great granddaughter, Hannah Jones.
At her request for no flowers, she instead asked that donations be made to the B.B. Comer Library and Information Center in Sylacauga or to the First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga, AL.
The service will be at the First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016. Visitation will be at the church starting at 10:00 am. Rev. James Haskins and Rev. Glenn Winter will conduct the service with John Patrick Jones, Kristen Jones, Taylor Caine, Joe Barnett, Paul Barnett, Michael Barnett, and Robert Barnett serving as pallbearers. A graveside will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Bowen, the Wilbanks family, the staff at Spring Terrace, and the staff at Coosa Valley Medical Center and Nursing Home for the love, care, and commitment they have to the people they service.
