Martha Jeanne AldaySylacauga, AL - Graveside service for Martha Jeanne Alday, 85, will be Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Westside Memorial Gardens in Bloomingdale, GA with Rev. Greg McCalister officiating. On Saturday, September 15, Martha Jeanne Alday passed away, suddenly in the company of family and completely at peace. After being declared cancer-free, she was finally ready to relax and enjoy some family time. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Alday, son Dwayne Alday, brother, Eli McCall, and sisters, Francis Overstreet and Faye Graves. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Robinson (husband, Mickey) and Elizabeth Alday (husband Jody); sons Wayne and Dale Alday; grandchildren, Michelle and Jamie; great grandchildren TJ, Joseph and Bella; and sisters, Ruth LaGrange and Ann Dent, both of Florida. If you knew Jean, you knew she was one-of-a-kind. She was a cryer, and a strong, loud and opinionated Christian who loved her family, gardening, cooking and taking care of those in need. Most of us have enjoyed her famous crab cakes, homemade 7UP cake, and the occasional biting commentary on the daily drama of everyday life. She always lost her glasses, could never find anything in her purse, but held her family together, fought gender stereotypes to be successful in the male-dominated trucking industry, and offered meals, shelter and support to everyone who came into her life. She loved flowers, hamburgers and "co-colas". She led her family through hard times, illnesses and loved them - all while living life her way. After being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, she prayed hard and fought through chemotherapy. On Thursday, September 12, she was declared CANCER FREE! With one of the hardest fights behind her, she packed her things and traveled to Alabama to enjoy some time relaxing on the sofa to enjoy conversation, family and many cups of black coffee. Within minutes of sitting in "her spot" on the sofa, she took a deep breath and passed in the most graceful life exit ever made. She was eased of recent burdens and spared future tribulations and took the ultimate vacation...she went to her Lord. We love her and there will never be another.
