As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

Our dear little Steven. I will Always remember you as our little tuskegee st. Steven. In my heart you are all still playing between our house and Cindys and usually getting. Into something with Adam. Testing how many streets over you could get on your bike before some of us caught you. Your passing has left a huge hole in so many hearts.  You will be truly missed. My heart is so with the whole family. Love you guys always.

I'm heartbroken. Stephen will always be my little brother. I will always remember him as the warm and caring person I first met when the family lived down the street from B. B. Comer. Fun times with firecrackers and playing Nintendo into the early morning hours. Saturdays with Alabama football and Church Sunday mornings. And the smile you had on your face the last time we met. .... Rest peacefully my friend...One day I'll see you again.

We were privileged to have Stephen at KCS. He was one of those special students you never forget. Please know the sorrow in my heart for Cindy, Ben, his brother and grandfather. Holding you close in my heart and prayers.  May God wrap His loving arms around you and give you His peace and comfort during these difficult days.

I'm so sorry. I loved Stephen. I got to know him at SHS. He was so helpful to the "North Side Teachers" whenever we had any kind of technology issues. I will never forget him or his kindness. Will be praying for y'all.

I am heartbroken to hear of the loss of Stephen Jones. Stephen was a student of mine at Sylacauga High School when he was in grades 10-12. I taught him science, and I also had the privilege to teach him in a class we called "TEAMS" which was designed to meet the needs of students interested in computers and technology. Stephen became one of my most trusted and knowledgeable students. He excelled and far surpassed any student I ever had in this class. Stephen was loved by all of the "North Side Teachers" during his time with us! When he needed a hot meal we provided it, when he needed a new Alabama t-shirt we got it for him, and when he needed encouragement we gave him a shoulder to lean on. I will miss you and I will never forget you, Stephen Jones!  May God comfort your family during this time of such great sorrow.

Cindy, my words cannot express the sympathy in my heart over your loss of Stephen. I pray God gives you strength through the days ahead.

Stephen Jones (Cousin):

When we lose a loved one, there are so many different emotions that confront us. These emotions can run the gamut of human feelings. What could I have done to help more? Why did God do this? I should have said this or done that. How will we survive without him.

Talking or writing about losing a loved one is a very, personal, and emotional topic. I do not pretend to have all the answers that will help someone get through such painful times. What I do have is the experience of living through the death of family members including, spouses, a young son and friends/relatives who died much before their time.

I believe writing about these painful feelings actually helps the healing process. Writing about our feeling and also fears, validates them and helps us live though the pain and feelings of loss.

Through facing and embracing the pain of loss, we can see more quickly the light at the end of the tunnel. We eventually learn that light "does shine" through the darkness and we will feel peace again someday. By not "facing the pain of loss" directly, we place ourselves in an "artificial place" trying to protect ourselves. I do not think there are shortcuts to avoid or minimize the pain we feel when we lose a loved one.

I do not pretend my approach or experience is best for anyone who experiences the loss of a loved one. I do know for me, writing about the loss and facing it head on helped me heal more quickly and move forward in life. Also, reaching out to help other people helps us heal as there are always those who are "worse off" than what we are personally going through.
