Alvin Jackson Mock Sr.

Newington – Alvin Jackson Mock, Sr., age 86, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at his residence. He was born on March 27, 1927 in Baldock, SC to the late Walker Alvin & Mabel Irene Reeves Mock, lived most of his life in Screven Co. and was retired from Union Camp after 33 ½ years, after which he went to work for SSC Industries, a chemical co., prior to forming his own company, Mock Inc. He was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 38 years, was a Sunday School Teacher, Discipleship Training Director, Vacation Bible School Director and Treasurer of the Cemetery Fund. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the American Legion Post #209, the Newington Volunteer Fire Dept. where he served as training officer, the Newington Founders Day Committee, the Screven County Farm Bureau Hunters Chapter and the Screven Co. Chamber of Commerce. He was also an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII and also served for several years in the GA National Guard in the 48th Military Police at Springfield, GA. While living in Springfield, he served as Cub Scout Master for several years and repaired radios and televisions. After he moved to Newington, he served 7 years on the Newington Town Council and served as Mayor for 8 years. He was also a charter member of the Deer Haven Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by his Brother: Marvin W. Mock.

Survivors: His Wife of 64 wonderful years: Grace Lynch Mock of Newington; Daughters and Sons-In-Law: Alvina M. Haney of Hinesville, GA, Lorraine M. & Mike Lee of Newington and Joette M. & Dwight Massey of Newington; Sons & Daughters-In-Law: Alvin Jackson, Jr. & Karen Mock of Newington, Marvin W. & Terry Mock of Oliver, GA, David A., Sr. & Terri Mock of Newington and Winston A. & Jennifer Mock of Newington; Sister: Margaret Emily Avant of Columbia, SC; 15 Grandchildren; 14 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.

Funeral Services: Thursday, January 23, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Green Hill Baptist Church with Rev. H. G. Ridgdill and Rev. Pete Wall officiating. Burial following at Green Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers: Grandsons and Nephews: Kenny Mock, Alex Mock, Joshua Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins, Triston Mock, Robert Avant and J.W. Avant. Honorary Pallbearers: Men of the Church and Members of Newington Fire Dept..
