

Sylvania (Formerly of Mechanicsville, VA) –Edward John "Ed” Ridgway, age 91, passed away on May 27, 2016. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jordan Ridgway; his parents, William and Jessie Ridgway; and his brother, William Ridgway.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sharon Ridgway Clarke (John Corbit Clarke) and Charleen Ridgway Fishback (Dennis Robert Fishback); three grandchildren, Stephanie Smith (Herbert Smith), Kelly Trainum (Joshua Trainum) and Patricia Dunn (Robert Dunn); four great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Beverly Smith and Bobby and Mathew Dunn; and sister-in-law, Ann Branch.
Ed was a member of the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He was a longtime resident of Mechanicsville, where he ran his own business, Ridgway Electric Heating-Cooling, Inc., for over 50 years. He was also involved in various businesses, developing land and building homes. Being an exceptional sportsman, Ed loved hunting and fishing. His memberships included the Mechanicsville Businessmen Association, Winchester Sportsmen Club and the VFW. His friends and family will miss him dearly, but his adventurous tales of huge fish and wild game will live on.
The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services will be held on Friday, at 11 a.m. Interment at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Road, Hanover, VA 23069.
