Evelyn Grace Austin

Sylvania – Evelyn Grace Austin, age 86, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Life Care Center, Elms Plantation, Charleston, SC following a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Screven County, GA and was a member of Sylvania First United Methodist Church. She was a 1943 graduate of Newington High School, Newington, Ga., and attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. and Ga State College for Women (GSCW) in Milledgeville graduating with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1948. She received a Masters in Education in 1963 from Ga. Southern College in Statesboro, Ga. followed by a Specialist in Education Degree from University of Georgia in 1967 and a 6 year Specialist in Education Degree from University of Georgia in 1971. She began her teaching career in Wrightsville, Ga. and retired with the Screven County School System in 1975. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (1963) and Kappa Delta Pi (1967). She was preceded in death by her Parents: Charlie Myers & Mattie Eva Poythress Austin; Sister: Iries Alena A. Padgett.

Survivors: Daughter: Lorinet Stegins Swailes of Ponte Vedra, FL; Brother: Charlie Wendell Austin of Newington, GA; Grandsons: Mikel & Kristie Collins of Moncks Corner, SC and James & Chelsea Collins of Charleston, SC; Great-Grandchildren: Kaylee Collins and Rocker Collins, both of Moncks Corner, SC; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Benson officiating. Burial following at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Kenny Austin, Ken Austin, Cameron Padgett, Danny Priester, Todd Bazemore and Don Bazemore
