Mr. Richard Donovan Smith, 71, of Sylvania, died Monday morning, May 20, 2013, at Optim Medical Center---Screven after a sudden illness.

He was born November 19, 1941, to the late Harry Oren Smith and Annie Lou Wilson Fail. He was a carpenter and a member of the Douglas Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include: Daughters and Sons-in-Law: Donna S. and Vance Mitchell of Waynesville, GA, Teresa and Joe Thompson of Sylvania, Sandra McNeely of Bulloch County, GA, and Arlene and David Bruno of Orange Park, FL, A Son and Daughter-in-Law: Ricky William and Connie B. Smith of Sylvania, His Companion: Betty Hollingsworth of Sylvania, Brothers and Sister-in-Law: Walter Arnold Fail of Walterboro, SC, and Herman and Debra A. Fail of Ruffin, SC, 14 Grandchildren, 9 Great-Grandchildren and Several Aunts and Uncles.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Warren Devevo officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: William McNeely, Tristian Mitchell, Ricky William Smith, Jr., Chris Fail, Tim Durden, Steve Durden, and Tyler Thompson.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
