Virginia Edwards Buxton

Mrs. Virginia Edwards Buxton, 83, of Sardis, died Friday night, August 28, 2015, at the University Hospital in Augusta following a sudden illness.

She was born in Egypt, Effingham County, Georgia on June 23, 1932, to the late Eula Bell Mills and Oswald Daniel Edwards, Sr. She and her husband, the late James Buxton, owned and operated Buxton's Supermarket in Sardis for 50 years before retiring. She was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church and the Women's Missionary Group at the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Martha Barber, and Brothers, J.C. Edwards, Frank Edwards, and Oswald D. Edwards, Jr..

Survivors include, A Daughter and Son-in-Law, Cile B. and Todd Campbell of Sardis, a Son, Otis A. McCoy and his fiancé, Patty Nyetrae of Avera, Georgia, a Brother, William A. Edwards of Sylvania, Grandchildren, Macy M. Kitchens, Flynt Campbell and Brynt Campbell, Great-Grandchildren, Gaven Kitchens, Madalyn Kitchens, Gracie Campbell, Lyncoln Campbell, Jay Campbell, Grayson Hillis, and Emerie Hillis . Several Nieces and Nephews, Special Friends, Mack Mobley and Sally Mobley.

Funeral services for Mrs. Buxton will be held Monday, August 31, 2015, at 2:00 PM in the Sardis United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Sirmons, the Rev. Dr. Karen R. Zeigler, and the Rev. Janet Odegaard officiating. Burial will be in the St. Marks Cemetery in Sardis.

Active pallbearers will be, Grandsons, Nephews, and Arthur Long, Mack Mobley and Rodney Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Sheriff Greg Coursey, Craig Kennedy, Maxwell Kennedy, James Hollingsworth, Preston Connor, and Scotty Sanford.

Mrs. Buxton's remains will be taken to her residence Sunday afternoon for visitation from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. She will lie in state at the church Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M.
