Fritz J. Erichsen

Erichsen, Fritz J. died peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 87. Devoted husband of Alma and married for 61 wonderful years. Father of Ingrid Swilling, Maren (Robert) Browne, Heidi (James) Rochford, and the late Fred (Susan) Erichsen. He was the beloved grandfather (Opa) to 10 grandchildren (Kevin, David, Jason, Greta, Annika, Brian, John, Patrick, Thomas and Elizabeth). He is survived by four brothers (Erich, Karl, Herbert, and Paul) and predeceased by two (Heinrich and Willy).

After arriving from Fohr, Germany, Fritz married Alma, was drafted and served in the Army, and settled in Laurel Hollow where he and Alma raised their family. He started Erichsen Provisions Inc. (Boar’s Head Distributor) and enjoyed being out on the truck and chatting with his customers.

Fritz’s happiest days were filled with gardening and splashing around in the pool surrounded by his family. His house was the home base for the entire family to enjoy the outdoors in good weather and to watch hockey and football games as the weather got colder. For many years he frequently visited and much-enjoyed a second home on Sanibel Island, Florida.

Fritz was a late (and enthusiastic) convert to golf and played at least a thousand rounds with his regular early morning pals and family in the friendly confines of the Northport Golf Course situated on the grounds of the Northport VA. His hole-in-one on Hole No. 7 was an oft-told event.

His great love for his family; his pride in nurturing the backyard gardens; and his kind, friendly and unassuming manner were attributes continually on display throughout his rich life.

In Fritz’s memory the family will be donating a bench/plaque and landscaping to the Northport Golf Course. Fritz was a proud US Army Veteran and spent countless enjoyable hours on the course. Any contributions in that regard may be sent to Maren Browne at 811 Monroe Drive, Centerport, NY 11721.

The family plans on having a private celebration of life.
