I am heartbroken for your passing Helen.  We never made contact throughout the years until now when I found you on Instagram. Too late for me and my wife. Hope you are happy in the heavens. I cherish the wonderful memories in New York , at work (Jamaica Hospital) and away from work... we shared in the early 80s. Your nephews and nieces and friends will miss you dearly. God will love and protect you in the skies.

My friend Helen was one of the most incredible people I have ever known.   She was generous, she was funny and above all she was kind. She was one of the foundations of St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church.   Whever she was needed, Helen was there to. help. From her earliest days she always volunteered at the rectory.  She was a Eucharistic Minister, a Consolation Minister, she worked in the food pantry bringing treats to all the patrons, she was a member of  the Choir, she was on the Cultural Day committee and headed the "Polish Table" at the Cultural Day Event.  Helen even attended the Filipino Mass each month and joined our Filipino parishioners for potluck dinner afterward.  If there was an event going on, you can be sure Helen was there to help.  We at St Mary Gate of Heaven are  brokenhearted to hear of our beloved friend's passing.   The Montfort Fathers as well were  saddened by this news.  A Memorial Mass to be held at St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church is in the workings right now.    Helen, we love you and will miss you more than you could ever know.

I spent a lot of time with Aunt Helen when I was a child. I would sleep over and Helen often took me on her errands. We’d go to Chrystal’s food mart on the corner and pick out candy. She took me to her boss’s home (the Doctor she worked for in the Pathology department of Jamaica Hospital.) We went to Aunt Mary and Uncle Frank’s butcher shop. She made friends and talked to everyone—strangers in elevators, neighbors walking down the street. She let me loose in Record World when I was 10 and said, “Pick an album.”  My first album. I chose Elton John’s Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, which Bernie Taupin’s lyrics made me look up words in a dictionary. When I was 13, Helen took my sister, Kathleen,  and me on an  S.S. Doric cruise to  Bermuda and began my love of traveling. Later in my life when I became a mother, she had given me a pale green bathrobe with big orange and pink flowers on it. It became my mamakinz’ signature  bathrobe. Most mornings I’m cuddled up in it while drinking coffee.  She was a gentle soul. Thank you for the memories. Love, Mary Ellen. 

I remember Aunt Helen’s anger and sadness when her team, the Brooklyn Dodgers , moved to Los Angeles. Like many other Dodger fans, Aunt Helen became a Yankee fan. I’ll never forget the day Aunt Helen took me to my first Yankee game.  I was probably 6 years old but it’s an event I’ll always remember! Thank you Aunt Helen and may you Rest In Peace. Love you!

Years have gone by but I will never forget our weekend trips to your house in Ozone Park; my mother would also stop by a bakery on Liberty You were always kind and offered to bring us home so that we wouldn’t have to wait for the “A” train & then transfer on Eastern Parkway for our next train home. 
Passing  Forest Park you always pointed out the spot that your dad picked mushrooms. 
You will be missed & the memories of our childhood will linger & you will never be forgotten; not only will I see you in the after life, I will visit you when I make my rounds in Mt. St. Mary’s, REST IN PEACE. 


I met Helen, when as a high school student , a few of us would "hang out" at her mom's house with her sister, Terri, my friend.  Helen was always kind and had the loveliest smile.  I  am saddened to learn of her death.  Her family will miss her, especially her nieces and nephews.
