Ted was born July 2,1931 to Esther Nardella and Anthony Lanci and was the younger brother of the late Rosemary Lanci. He was raised in Glendale NY and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. He then attended City College of New York where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, and later received a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University. Ted served in the US Army for two years starting in June 1954. He was assigned to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC and was part of Barracks 73, a close-knit group that has kept in touch and communicated every Veterans Day.
Ted met his future wife, Berthilde Hoffmann, at a CYO dance and they married in May 1958. Ted worked for 36 years at Sperry Systems Management, which later merged into Unisys, primarily in the Submarine Fleet Ballistic Missile Program. He was a department head, supervising a group of 15 engineers. Ted and Bert moved to Syosset in 1960 where they raised four daughters and still reside.
Ted had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. He loved bowling and was for years on a Sperry bowling team. He golfed, played tennis well into his 80s, was a poker shark, loved the beach and was an enthusiastic fan of Broadway theater and showtunes. He was an avid fan of the NY Giants and the NY Mets and, in his younger years, his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a devoted Catholic and churchgoer at St Edwards the Confessor in Syosset, NY.
Ted was a man of integrity, humility and kindness. He closely followed the lives of his four children, eight grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and was extremely proud of all of their achievements. As a husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ted will be deeply missed.
Ted is survived by his wife Berthilde, four daughters and their husbands, Doretta (David), Karen (David), Arleen (Gregg) and Stephanie (David), eight grandchildren (Christopher, Rachel, Matthew, Michael, Madeline, Olivia, Juliette (husband Ross) and William), and one great-granddaughter (Leah) with another great-granddaughter on the way.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30am on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Beney’s Funeral Home in Syosset followed by a funeral mass at 11am that same day at St Edward the Confessor in Syosset, with internment following at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, Long Island.
