

Larry “Bear” Lucas, 61, of Syracuse, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend died on October 15, 2010 at home. He was born August 24, 1949 in Montgomery, Alabama; Larry was the son of the late Velma Heard, Charles Heard and Cornelius Lucas. As a long time resident of Syracuse, he was a retired employee of Niagara Mohawk where he served as a Gas Mechanic C for 19 years. Larry attended Albany State College and was a graduate of Thomas J. Corcoran High School where he actively participated in football and wrestling. He enjoyed traveling, playing Bid Whist and was on the Strike ‘n Spare bowling league for many years.
He leaves to cherish his wife of 29 years, Crystal R. Lucas; three beautiful children, Tara, Cynthia and Marissa all of Syracuse; step-sister, Aminata Smith of Bronx, NY; a dear cousin and caregiver Reginald Carey; five grandchildren, Jacquez, Kimora, Nehemiah, Zephaniah and Makayla; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 pm with funeral services to follow at the Greater New Testament Church, 1121 S. Salina St., Syracuse. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Farone & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
