

May Rose Kirschner, was truly a loving English Lady, born in Coddenham, England. She was the daughter of Harold and Rose Ellen Lockwood. Educated in a one room classroom where she excelled in her studies, sewing, and athletics, winning her a scholarship to a higher education. A crowned May queen in her village at age 14. WWII was underway in Europe so May joined the Women’s Land Army in 1940 in England. The Land Army was formed by young women that worked the fields and farms so as to feed their country of England since the men were off to war in Europe. May met an American Air Force soldier, Robert Kirschner and was happily married in 1943. March 1945, during the war, May left England with her baby daughter along with a convoy of battleship and the American wounded to live in America. May and her baby girl arrived in New York ten days later after crossing the trencherous Atlantic Ocean. May was a nanny for many prominent families in the Syracuse area after she raised her family. She was known as Auntie May by everyone. A devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, loved by everyone she met. May really enjoyed her family especially all her grandchildren, who called her Nana May. She lived in the Syracuse and North Syracuse area where she was very active in St. Rose of Lima Church and the RCIA Group, and a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. May was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1997, after 51 years of marriage; brothers, Kenneth and Charles Lockwood of Suffolk, England.
Survived by her son, Jon Kirschner; daughter, Carole (Carmen) Barbato; brother, Reginald Lockwood of England; grandchildren, Paul (Renee) Barbato, Michelle Kravetz, Michael (Helen) Barbato, Karin (Guy) Falcone, Dawn Marie (Gregory) Eberl, and Carmen (Marcie) Barbato; 15 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Jonathan, and Thomas Kravetz, Philip and Sierra Falcone, Sydney, Jordan, Arianna, Gabrielle, Natalie, Olivia and Carmen Alexander Barbato, Rebecca, Madeline, and Lucas Eberl; and several nieces and nephews in England, nieces and nephews in Florida; sister-in-law, Marie Kirschner of Oswego, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:15 A.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Liverpool. Burial will follow in Onondaga Veterans Cemetery. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the funeral mass of Friday from 9-10 A.M. at the church, 425 Beechwood Ave, Liverpool, NY 13088.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208.
