

Tommy Lucille Giles Eichblatt, longtime Taft, Texas, resident, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012, following a short illness. Tommy was born April 21, 1926, in Sinton, Texas, the tenth of eleven daughters born to John I. and Beulah Bradley Giles. On August 15, 1948, Tommy married Elbert (Shorty) Eichblatt at the home of her parents. It was while they were making their home in Sinton that Tommy and Shorty welcomed two daughters into the family, Jeanette (Jan) Carol and Betty Jane. In September, 1957, Tommy and Shorty moved to Taft. As a homemaker, Tommy worked diligently in her home, her lawn and the large vegetable garden that Shorty planted every year. As a life-long member of the
Church of Christ, Tommy served as a Sunday School teacher and Church Treasurer while living in Taft. She was a member of the Weber Road Church of Christ in Corpus Christi at the time of her death. After Shorty died in 1987, Tommy continued to live in Taft until May, 2006, at which time her daughter, Jan and her husband Duane invited Tommy to live with them in their home in Corpus Christi. Tommy loved God, her family, her church and watching football. She especially loved the Dallas Cowboys.
Tommy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Shorty on March 28, 1987; sisters: Flossie Gore, Hazel White, Ruth Holbrook, Grace Chick, Audrey Thomas, Ura Dean Ware, Barbara “Bobby” Moore and LeMoyne Grissom.
Tommy is survived by her daughters, Jan Engels and husband Duane of Corpus Christi and Betty Johnston and husband Carl of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Amy Johnston of Almere, the Netherlands and Daniel Johnston and wife Lisa of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters, Ima Jean Eddy of San Antonio, Texas and Jo Danford and husband Russell of Portland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Taft Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be sent to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, Texas 78586.
Services are entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home, Taft.
