Betty Jo (Cookson) Lawley was born on February 19th, 1927 in Qualls, OK, the daughter of Reece McCracken Cookson and Katherine Francis (Risenhover) Cookson. She grew up with four brothers and sisters, Jimmie R. Cookson, Sandford M. Cookson, Mary Cookson-Novak, and Thelma Cookson-Powers. She attended school for a while and then decided to marry and raise a family. She was the proud mother of four sons, Robert Lee Lawley, Tommy Reese Lawley, Charles Andrew Lawley and Jimmy Joe Lawley. She earned a living as a clerk at the Woolworths Department Store. She liked people and spending time talking with them. When she wasn’t working, she was feeding her family her homemade chicken and dumplings and her light as a feather rolls. She loved to cook. She enjoyed a little free time doing work picture puzzles and word puzzles. She enjoyed a night out playing Bingo and was even more excited going to the casino with Odie Belle Breshears, her best friend. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother and friend. She was kind, considerate and always had time to talk to you. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She loved keeping up with all of their activities and was their biggest fan. Her health began to fail and she passed from this life on June 22nd, 2024 in Sapulpa, OK. She was 97 years old and lived life to its fullest.
Betty Jo is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, one son, Tommy Reese Lawley, two brothers, Jimmie Cookson and Sandford Cookson, and two sisters, Mary Novak and Thelma Powers.
