

Betty June Lamont Phillips was born on June 30th, 1941in Scraper, OK at the Evert Young place, the daughter of Jake and Hester Irene (Young) Lamont. The family, Betty and brothers Blaine and Bobby, moved to the Schwabe farm and later to little Kansas, then onto Colcord until 6th grade and finally back to Scraper .Betty graduated from Kansas High School in 1959. Betty then attended and graduated from NSU. She married the love of her life, Roy Phillips on June 8th, 1963. Together they moved to California, where Betty taught school for one year. They moved back to Oklahoma, where Betty taught in Sperry for three years, at Leach for three years, seven years in Parsons, KS, and twenty years at Kansas, OK. When she retired, Betty continued working at the library and taught Alternative Education for the school. Betty and Roy spent 38 years on the hill in Scraper. Whenever they had a little free time, Betty loved to travel. She studied and collected Sleepy Eye Crocks, spent time camping at the lake with the Phillips Clan, attending country and bluegrass festivals, and just spending the day fishing with Roy. She loved teaching, time with her family and friends, and all her nieces and nephews. She was a Christian by faith and enjoyed gospel music. Betty went home to her Eternal Rest on July 9th, 2015 in Tulsa, OK. She was 74. She will be missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, both brothers, Bobby and Blaine Lamont, and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roy Phillips of the home in Scraper, several nieces and nephews, as well as many students and a host of friends and loved ones.
