Hulbert, OK- Charlene Eva Carey Wilson passed from this life on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She began her earthly journey on August 5th, 1949 in Vian, OK, being born the daughter of Charles and Marie (Morris) Carey. She grew up with an older brother Gene, and a younger brother and sisters, Samuel Carey, Nora Carey-Perkins and Lillian Carey- Reddoch. The family relocated from Caney, KS to Owasso, OK. Charlene graduated high school and then started her studies at Connors University. It was while she was at school she met a tall and handsome man, Ron Wilson, that announced they were going to get married. She laughed. Later at NSU, she again met Ron and they were married at the Tulsa Wedding Chapel on February 9th, 1975. They would spend the next forty-six years chasing down four children, Randi, Charlotte, Veronica and Jeffrey, while making memories to last a lifetime. She occasionally would work outside of their home, she worked for Whirlpool telecommunications companies, and various jobs. Yet she was always happiest keeping track of her husband, kids and all their activities, from sporting events to marching band competitions. When she had a little free time, she was in the kitchen whipping up some of her famous comfort food like chicken and noodles, baked beans, and her famous Pot Roast! She loved sewing and crocheting, solving puzzles and playing games. She liked Rock n Roll music like The Rolling Stones and Kiss, all SciFi, Captain Kirk and the Star Trek shows, John Wayne Westerns, “Our Man Flint”, and James Bond. She was known to curl up on the couch with a good book like Stephen King or any other thriller of that genre. Following 25 years in Owasso and Chandler, the family relocated to the Hulbert Community. Charlene kept herself busy with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Bingo, and almost anything to do with the Cherokee Nation for which she was so very proud of her heritage and her people. Grandchildren were what kept her hopping. She adored any chance to keep up with them and their activities. She never missed a chance to gather them all together for a holiday or summer activity. She had a beautiful smile, and a warm and giving heart. She loved to keep her wits sharpened on Ron every chance she had. She was fiercely devoted to the family she adored. Her health began to fail her and it was difficult for her not to be as independent as she once was. Yet she took it all in stride and remained at home with Ron and the family keeping a watchful eye. The family had belonged to Lynn Lane Baptist Church in Tulsa for years. She passed from this life to her eternal rest on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 after reaching the age of 71 years old. She will be greatly missed and loved.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
