Charles Eugene Carey, or Bud to many family and friends, was born on August 15th, 1926 in Hulbert, OK, the son of Jim and Nora (Alexander) Carey. He grew up in a family with one brother, Doin and two sisters, Isabelle “Pat” Locust and Irene Woodall. He attended school, then proudly answered the call to serve his country, and did so until he was honorable discharged from the US Navy in WWII. He returned to Oklahoma following the war and met Marie Morris. They were wed in 1947 on Halloween in Muskogee, OK. Together they raised one son and three daughters and enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. Bud was a machinist by trade. He and Marie lived and worked in Caney, Wichita, KS, and Owasso, OK. In 1996, they moved to Peggs, OK. Bud thoroughly enjoyed anytime spent out doors with his family, camping and doing a little fishing. He was good at locating the wild onions and gigging for fish. He and Marie loved to spend time out in their garden or taking their canine companions for an evening stroll. There was always a gun show to go explore or a good Louis L’Amour book full of gunslingers and western adventure, ready to read. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage and attended Stomp Dances whenever possible. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren, the time spend with them was precious to Bud. He was a Christian by faith, and attended Swimmer Baptist Church every chance he had. His beloved Marie passed from this life in 2001. Bud continued living at the farm, spending every moment with those he loved most. The Lord called this hard working man home from his labors on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 in Tahlequah, OK with his family by his side. He was 90 years old. This loving husband, father, grandfather and friend will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother, Doin Carey, his two sisters, Isabelle “Pat” Locust and Irene Woodall, daughter-in-law, Deborah Joyce Carey, and son-in-law, Lee R. Perkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his four adored children, Sam Carey of Hulbert, OK, Charlene Wilson and husband Ron of Hulbert, OK, Nora Carey-Perkins of Hulbert, OK, and Lillian Reddoch and husband David of Broken Arrow, OK. He lives on in his nine grandchildren, Randi Spinazzola, Charlotte Brown, Veronica Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson, Sammy Carey Jr., Audie Perkins, Zackery Perkins, Daniel Jones, and Gregory Jones. He lives on in his eight great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
