

Tahlequah, OK - Funeral services for Cherrie Imogene (Dumond) Johnson will be held on Thursday, January 30th, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Reed-Culver Chapel with Rev. Matthew Wilson officiating. Interment will be held at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be left at www.reedculver.com.

Cherrie Imogene (Dumond) Johnson was born November 9, 1931, near Fort Gibson, Oklahoma to Harry and Ollie (Benge) Dumond. Cherrie attended Manard School until middle of the 8th grade, then the family moved to the Mt. Zion Community where she finished 8th grade. She graduated from Baggley High School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in May 1948. She then worked for Aetana Insurance Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a clerk/typist for the next three years. On December 9, 1950 she married Charlie Percy Johnson in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where they shared 57 happy years. He was a career Army soldier and they traveled to various Army bases with a tour in Germany. After his retirement in 1965, they moved back to Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Cherrie began working for Hinds Department Store, and then retired after 26 years as a bookkeeper/secretary. Cherrie was a Christian by faith and a member of Blue Springs General Baptist Church in Gideon. She served the Lord by teaching Sunday school. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She was the current President of the Resident Council of Heritage Place Assisted Living Center. Cherrie was preceded in death by her husband in February 2008, her parents, four brothers; Herbert Dumond, Frank Dumond, Van Peebles and Johnnie Dumond; two siters-in-laws, Louise Dumond and Susie Peebles.
She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Lee (Johnson) Seals of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a son Kenneth C. Johnson of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; a “Favorite” grandson, Jeffrey Seals and wife Valerie of Las Vegas, Nevada; a “favorite” granddaughter, Jentri (Seals) Guinn and Husband Tim of Porter, Oklahoma and three “special” great granddaughters, Kailey Jordan, Kendall Neilee and Karlie Grace Guinn of Porter, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a sister, Coralee Webb and husband, Jim of Wagoner, Oklahoma and two sisters-in laws, Laverne Dumond of Wagoner, Oklahoma and Rose Dumond Tramel of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
