Claudie Lee Hougland, or simply Claude to those that knew him, was born May 29, 1940 in the Qualls community to George Washington and Velma (Glass) Hougland along with his brother, Charlie. As he grew older and joined the workforce, he found a career as a steelworker for many years. Whether on the job or at home, Claude did not shy away from hard work and could always be found tinkering on something. He owned horses, taking on the challenge of breaking and training them as one of his many hobbies. He grew up to enjoy the simple things in life; loving the outdoors. The joy he found being in nature and admiration for God’s beauty was something he carried with him throughout his life. He kept the most beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and looks forward to a day out by the water, fishing and camping or spending time with his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was an avid coon hunter and cherished his canine companions. One thing was for certain, Claude made sure to always put God first and foremost. He was ordained as a minister by Fire Ministries and attended God’s Mountain Church in Rose, OK. He was devoted to sharing the gospel with anyone he could. He never failed to let the Lord lead in every aspect of his life and concluded each decision ahead of him with “if it’s God’s will”, knowing his steps were guided and directed. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home on Saturday, August 16, 2025. He was 85 years old and will be forever remembered by those that knew and loved him.
He has gone on to join his parents, George and Velma Hougland and beloved wife, Myrtle Pauline Hougland.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Deanna Landin of Fairview, OK, Chris Arnold Hougland and wife Ashley, Claudia Lynn (Hougland) Dean, both of Tahlequah, OK, mother of his children, Leoma Buckhorn of Briggs, OK, and one brother, Charlie Hougland of Tahlequah, OK. His memory lives on through his four grandchildren, Elijah Arnold Hougland, Gracie Rose Hougland, Taylor Lindzi Spears, and Tiffany Ann Anderson, along with four nephews, three nieces, and a host of friends and loved ones.
Graveside services for Claude will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10:00am at White Oak Cemetery in Qualls with Reverend Stanley Smith officiating. Serving at pallbearers include Charles Ray Hougland, Clint Hougland, Chris Loveall, Nick Loveall, Justin Torix, and Bruce Wright.
