Dana Patric O’Dell, age 67 died Saturday January 13, 2018 at his home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with loving family surrounding him. Dana was born July 28, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Gerald & Margaret O’Dell. Dana was preceded in death by his parents.
Dana grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended Tulsa Central High School, receiving a GED. During his senior year in high school, Dana had his first son, Sean, in 1968. After high school, Dana attended Tulsa Junior College for a short time while also working in the family’s oil business. Dana left the family business in 1974 and went to work for Sterling Industries as a Yard & Field Supervisor. In 1975, Dana had his second son Micah. In 1977 Dana took a contract job working for Williams Company in Saudi Arabia where he was a Material Manager on a pipeline construction project. After the pipeline was completed Dana returned to Tulsa where he continued to work in the oil and gas industry until 1984 when he went to work for the Department of the Interior (Osage Nation) in their Oil & Gas Department as a Petroleum Engineering Technician. While working for the Osage Nation he received a Certificate of Honor for Excellence of Service, a very rare award that was given only for exceptional achievement. Dana left the Osage Nation in 1986 to try his hand in the restaurant business where he purchased a small diner in Pawhuska. This was short lived as Dana’s heart was in oil & gas. In 1990, Dana took a job in Annapolis, Maryland with Geraghty & Miller, Inc. as a Senior Technician in the environmental industry dealing with groundwater and soil remediation projects around the Washington DC area. Dana left Geraghty & Miller in 1993 and returned back to Tulsa to be near family. In 1996, Dana had his daughter, Hannah. During this time Dana continued working on small projects in the oil industry. Due to health issues, Dana was forced to retire around 2005 and eventually moved to Tahlequah where he lived until his death.
