

Funeral services for David Mitchell Martin, SMSGT retired, will be Thursday, February 19th, 2015 at 10:00 Am at the Reed-Culver Chapel with Brother Charlie Levi and Brother Gary Ridley officiating. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum at Memorial Gardens in Muskogee, OK. The United States Air Force Ft. David Mitchell Martin was born on October 5th, 1938 in Albemarle, Stanly County, NC, the son of Jesse Pines and Annie Lee (Hunneycutt) Martin. David enlisted in the US Navy on February 7th, 1956 while still attending school in Albemarle, NC. He served aboard the USS Lexington and was honorably discharged in 1959. After leaving the Navy, He worked as a crane operator, heavy equipment specialist, and truck driver. He then decided to make the military a career and enlisted in the US Army followed by the NC Air National Guard, serving honorably from 1979 until his retirement in 1997. In the military, David was a civil engineer. On May 27th, 1961, David married the love of his life and his best friend, Edna B., in York, South Carolina. This love story lasted until David’s passing and was blessed with three children, Sandra, Sharon, and Jesse. He and his wife also had custody of and raised a niece, Lorrie. Any chance he got was spent in the company of his loving wife and children. He was an active member of the Masonic Order at Yadkin Falls Lodge #637. He liked traveling and seeing the sights of the world and traveled to Spain, Germany, France, Honduras, Israel, the Azores, and many other destinations. He liked reading, working crossword puzzles, and inventing. He was well known for his intelligence. He and his son built a lumber-mill in North Carolina, designed and built shops and barns, and he invented a three point hitch T-post driver. Family life was of the utmost importance to him. He was delighted when the holidays rolled around and it was time to share a meal and enjoy time with his children, grandchildren, and watch his great grandchildren play around the house. He was a pleasant man who always had a smile on his face. He was honest, demonstrated integrity, and taught those around him the importance of telling the truth. He was the definition of strength in all aspects of his life. His grandchildren called him “Superman”, and he did his level best to meet their standards. He spent the remainder of his retired years on the farm he loved so much, with his family as his next door neighbors. He was a Christian by faith and a member of Spring Valley Freewill Baptist Church in Hulbert. His health had been in a steady state of decline for several years, and on February 12th, 2015, he went to his Eternal Home. He was 76 years old. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his daughter, Sandra Martin, in 1979, and one sister and her husband, Nancy Efird and husband Jack. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Edna of the home. He leaves his children, Sharon Currie and husband Thomas Whychell of Hulbert, his son, Jesse Martin of Hulbert, and Lorrie Patty of Hulbert, OK. He leaves one brother and one sister, Stephen Martin and wife Sandra of Bremmen, GA and Sherry Martin of Albemarle, NC. His legacy in life lives on in his seven grandchildren, Jonathan Currie and wife Ashley , Justin Currie, Jessica Currie, DeAnna Faggart, Keely Grace Martin, Julia Currie, and Austin Patty all of Hulbert, OK. There are two great granddaughters, Katelynn Currie and Kimber Currie of Hulbert, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
