
Teresita, OK- Funeral services for Charley “Dean” Marler were held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Teresita, OK with Reverend Jimmy Bell and Pastor Keith Marler officiating. Internment will take place at Teresita Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Pallbearers for Dean included Albert Marler, Richard Marler, George Shankles. John Penland, Chris Marler, Joshua Gadar, Jared Wiggins, and Allen Naramore.
Honorary pallbearers included Elijah Wall, Charley Marler, Zachery Chambers and Caleb Marler.
Charley “Dean” Marler was born on April 12, 1932 in Teresita, OK the son of Dewey and Emaline (Shankle) Marler. After attending school, he served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Teresita Community and married the love of his life, Miss Beverly Jean Killough. This union was blessed with four sons and one daughter and years of happiness. Dean was a talented tool and dye maker for North American Rockwell which later became Boeing. Dean taught his children that you were never too old to learn . And Dean was constantly learning. With his free time, Dean enjoyed a little hunting and fishing. You could find him out in the yard cutting wood or working in his large acre garden. He passed this gift onto his children and grandchildren. The fruits of their labor was canned for the long winter months ahead. He was the happiest when spending time with his children , grandchildren, and great grandchildren joking and teasing. There was always time to spend the afternoon at the creek or river enjoying the sun, the water, and each others company. A Baptist by faith, Dean was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Teresita. With his health fading, the Lord called Dean to his heavenly home on January 15, 2011 in Tulsa with his loved ones by his side. Dean was 78 years old.
Dean is welcomed home by his parents, his son Wayne, and his brothers John, Howard, and Calvin Marler, and his sisters, Rosetta Huntsman, Kathleen Forrest, Geraldine Scott, Joyce Steele, and Loise Marler.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife Beverly of the home, three sons, Albert Marler and wife Valerie of Twin Oaks, Keith Marler and wife Susanna of Teresita, Richard Marler and wife Robin of Leach, and a daughter Vicki Chambers and companion Allen Naramore of Teresita, OK. His two brothers and two sisters remaining include Robert and Delores Marler of Broken Arrow, Earldean Marler of Peggs, Lola Mae Pogue of Cushing, and Patricia Gunerson of Teresita. Dean’s legacy lives on in his 14 grandchildren, Jared Wiggins, Emily Wall, Amie Price, Crystal Marler. Sarah Marler, Caleb Marler, Natasha Nixon, Rebecca Marler, Joshua Gadar, Mariah Chambers, Chris Marler, Coty Thompson, Cassey Thompson, and Colby Marler. Dean also leaves 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.
