

Tahlequah, Ok- Funeral Services for Donald Lee “Donnie” Blackbird will be held on Friday, June 12th, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Johnson Prairie Church with Reverend Jason Gann and Brother Ed Gourd officiating. His family will receive visitors beginning Thursday, June 11th, 2020, 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with his loved ones in Agent Cemetery in Moody, OK. Pallbearers include Jim Woodard, Anthony Gann, Robert Blackbird, Robert Battershell, Rick Turner, Paul Turner, David Turner, and Justin Gann. His Honorary pallbearers include Jim Hicks, Jeff Heaps, Brian Turner, Chris Turner, William Woodard and Gaven Hicks.
Donnie Lee Blackbird was born on Thursday, May 24th, 1956, in Tahlequah, OK, the son of William and Ella Mae (Johnson) Blackbird. He was raised in a home with one sister, Diane Blackbird Huntington. He attended school at Sequoyah High School and then began his studies at Okmulgee Tech. He made his living as a Sanitation Technician at the ICTC of Muskogee. When he wasn’t busy working, he was busy spending as much of his free time as possible running after his nieces and nephews, and supporting them in their sporting functions. He really enjoyed watching WWF wrestling as well as taking his nephews and cousins to wrestling events. Don loved hosting family tournaments of badminton, horseshoes, croquet, and the family card game 104. He liked a leisurely day spent fishing with his family, or gathering for a holiday or special occasion. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan. He also collected memorabilia, movies, cards, records, CD’s, and comics. He enjoyed watching movies and listening to good music. A Christian by faith, he was a member of Johnson Prairie Baptist church in Moody, OK. He liked attending the special functions and listening to the old gospel songs being sung, but he especially loved the hamburger and chili nights. He loved his family dearly, and would have enjoyed more time with each and every one. Unfortunately, his health began to fade and the Lord called him home on Monday, June 8th, 2020, at his home in Tahlequah, OK. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, his grandparents, and his aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister: Diane and husband Tony Huntington of Avondale, AZ; his nieces and nephews: Adam and wife Kristy Woodard of Tahlequah, OK; Amanda and husband Jim Hicks of Avondale, AZ; Ashley and husband Jeff Heaps of Tulsa, OK; Alex and wife Melody Woodard of Avondale, AZ; and Leona and husband Rojer Johnson of Morris; as well as great nieces and nephews: Abbee, Emma, William, Luke, Gaven,Ryker, Leo, Otto, Oscar, Xavier, Shyone, and Zander; as well as numerous family members and friends.
