Born on October 11, 1945, in McAlester, OK, Claudette was the cherished daughter of Claude and Letha Ellen Henderson and the adored sister of Junius Henderson. The family later settled in Tulsa, where she graduated from Nathan Hale High School and began a life full of purpose, creativity, and care. Claudette was a woman of remarkable talent and grace. She began her career as co-owner of two well-loved restaurants, “Larry’s” and “Silver Castle” with her first husband. During these years, she became a devoted mother to her two children, Becky and Coy. On December 9, 1989, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Gourd, and with him gained four more beloved children: Bruce, Debbie, Shelly, and Richie. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love. A gifted artist, Claudette was a Master Doll Craftsman who poured, fired, painted, and clothed exquisite porcelain dolls entirely by hand. Her eye for beauty extended to painting, coloring, and sewing—skills she offered generously to her church, her friends, and her loved ones. As a devoted member of Church On The Move, she served faithfully as a seamstress and a prayer warrior, leaving a legacy of faith and selfless service. Claudette had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen, heard, and loved. Her radiant kindness, warm smile, and open arms were extended to everyone she met. To her family, she was the heart of the home—loving, supportive, and deeply proud of each of them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her unending joy, and her memory will live on in their laughter and lives. Claudette was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Letha Ellen Henderson; her beloved son, Coy; her brother, Junius Henderson and wife Lois; and her grandparents. She now rests in the arms of Jesus. She is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Gourd of Owasso, OK; her children Becky Johnston and husband Joel; Bruce Gourd and wife Tracy; Debbie Barnett; Shelly Bergman and husband Mike; and Richie Gourd and wife Kelly. She is lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Ellen “Claudette” Gourd’s life was a living testament to grace, creativity, and unwavering love. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched.
