Henry Lee Holcomb was born on September 26th, 1944 in Tailholt, Cherokee County, OK, the son of Johnson and Eliza (Pigeon) Holcomb. He grew up in a family of five brothers, Charley, Richard, Jeff, Oley and Joe and three sisters, Mamie Sue Buck, Annie “Nan” Sue Holcomb, and Betty Sue Holcomb. Growing up in the Caney Community, Hank loved riding horses, fishing, camping, and hunting. He was raised as a first speaker and Cherokee was spoken predominantly in the home. When he was finished with school, he began his lifelong occupation as a concrete finisher with the Tulsa Paving Crew. He met and married his best friend, Shirley Mae Neugin, and together they spent 42 wonderful years of memories, laughter and chasing the babies around. There were crawdads to hunt, fun with nieces and nephews, popsicles all around, fishing camping and hunting. He was an accomplished cook with smoking meats, and baking beans on a firepit. He loved gathering the family together to share a meal and a laugh or two, there were plenty of those! Hank enjoyed the sunrise and sunset from his own porch, and the quiet of the evening breeze was all he needed to be grateful. The grand and great grandkids were always welcome and he was their biggest supporter. He was born a member of Stokes Stomp Grounds, and remained faithful throughout his life. He passed from this life on March 21st, 2025 at the age of 80 following a brief illness.
He has gone home to join his grandparents, Thomas and Annie Scott-Pigeon, George and Betsy Bunch-Holcomb, his twin daughters, Sandy and Mandy Holcomb, one son, Wynn Holcomb, his mom and dad, Johnson and Eliza Pigeon-Holcomb, brothers, Charley, Richard, Jeff, Oley, and Joe Holcomb, and Mamie Sue Buck and Annie “Nan” Sue Holcomb.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Holcomb of the home and their adored children, stepsons, Keith Manus and wife Jacquie, Johnny Manus and wife Nora, and Eugene Manus and wife Leann all of Tahlequah. He leaves one sister, Betty Holcomb, and grandchildren, Brett Manus, Izzy Manus, Crystal Copeland, Felicia Pilcher, Brock Manus, Erin D. Van Gilder, Noah Manus, Elijah Manus, Rachel Manus, RJ Winslow, and Teri Gonzalez. He lives on in his great grandchildren, Aubrey Manus, Avery Manus, Paizly Copeland, Jase Copeland, Wrenly Copeland, Vada Manus Gay, Hakoda Manus Gay, Tojuwah Manus Gay, Evander Manus and Melody Manus, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
