Jackie Louise Smith was born on August 28th, 1950 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Columbus and Betty (Bean) Smith. She grew up and attended school in Lost City and Hulbert as a child. Growing up she enjoyed working at the ancient village, she loved people and educating them. She was a gifted artisan, making baskets, making clay beads, and ribbon shirts, she was a gifted seamstress. She co-owned a laundromat for six years. In 1965, she met Gregory Smith and it was love at first sight. Together, they raised a family of three sons and one daughter, Johnny, Jody, Michael and Georgette. She had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to make people happy, wherever she was. When she went to the kitchen, you could just about bet she was making her homemade fry bread, chicken and dumplings, and fried pies. Jackie was always ready to do a little traveling, especially if it meant watching the Sequoyah Football and Basketball teams, she was one of their biggest fans. She never missed the opportunity to go watch her granddaughter, Carolina, swim all around the state at swim meets. Holidays were always a favorite time to get her family together and share the fun. She was quiet, but nothing ever went by her that she didn’t notice. She was always there when you needed her. She was proud of her Cherokee Heritage and loved her family. A Christian by faith, the Lord called this wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother home from her many labors on June 15th, 2023 in Tulsa, OK, surrounded by the family that loved her. She was 72 years old and will be greatly missed.
She has gone home to join her husband Gregory Smith, her son, Michael Smith, three grandchildren Cody , Cheyanna and Ethan Smith, her grandparents, Charlie and Ora (Johnson) Smith, and James and Cora (Carey) Bean. She joins her father, Columbus, and two brothers, Boyd and Randy Smith. She also joins Joe Dee Smith, Pidgeon and Maggie Keener, Hastings and Loretta Shade, and her mother-in-law, Ida (Whitekiller) Osage.
