Jerry Ross Keys, 71, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away on January 24, 2026, leaving behind many who shared in his laughter and time together. He enjoyed the outdoors, good food, and being with family. He was born on March 8, 1954, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Leon Keys and Ethel Delene (McClellan) Keys.
In his younger years, Jerry worked as a nursery worker at Greenleaf Nursery, but away from the job, he kept busy in ways that suited him; hunting and fishing when he could, playing bingo, and always ready for a good meal. Jerry also earned his black belt in karate and later served as a karate instructor. Known as a jokester, he enjoyed laughter and good company and had a way of bringing humor into everyday moments.
Jerry’s blonde, curly hair in his younger years earned him the nickname “Cotton.” A natural jokester, he was often the guinea pig for his brothers’ and cousins’ antics and never shied away from giving it right back.
Most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was sharing stories, meals, or everyday moments together.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Ethel Keys, and his brothers, James Keys, Bill Keys, and Larry Keys.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Brian Keys and William Keys; his sister, Regina Hicks; his grandchildren, Averi, JL, and Tatum Keys; his best friend, Bill Kelley; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
