Jimmie Lee Ferrell, or more simply “Jim” to his family and friends, was born on July 21, 1948 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Sam and Louella (Sanders) Ferrell. He was a graduate of Tahlequah High School and lifelong member of the Tahlequah area. In 1968, Jim proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and received his honorable discharge on March 10, 1970 in Fort Carson, CO. After returning home, he put his hands to work, completing his HVAC certification and becoming the owner and operator of his own business, Ferrell Heat and Air.
Jim was a man who truly loved the outdoors. In his younger years, he was an avid softball player who spent many days on the pitcher’s mound. That same spirit of dedication carried into all aspects of his life. He found peace and happiness in hunting, fishing, camping, and riding horses, always feeling most at home under an open sky. Whether tending to his lawn or simply enjoying the fresh air, Jim believed work was not a chore but a way of life—and even a hobby. He enjoyed the company of others, often gathering around a table for a good game of cards or a friendly round of cornhole. Jim also took pride in keeping a clean vehicle, appreciating the small details that reflected his character and care. Above all, Jim treasured his family. He will be especially remembered for the moments spent with his grandchildren—sharing laughter, stories, and bowls of popcorn. They knew him best as “Pappaw” and he coined the nickname “Yeehaw”, affectionately given to him by his great-granddaughter, Alora. Those simple times meant the most to him and will remain lasting memories for those who loved him. On March 16, 2026, Jim passed from this life at the age of 77 years old. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and the quiet, steady way he showed up for the people in his life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Louella Ferrell, two brothers, Roy “Bud” Ferrell and Gene Ferrell, and one sister, Sue Ferrell.
Those left to remember him include his son, Jimmy Ferrell and wife Crystal of Cookson, OK and two daughters, Teresa McLemore and husband Larry of Wagoner, OK and Lajuana DeCamp and husband Scott of Claremore, OK, significant other, Sherry Kimble of Tahlequah, OK along with three sisters, Alene Eddings of Hulbert, OK, Faye Pritchett and husband Louie and Leona Ferrell, both of Welling, OK.
