

Joseph "Joe" Lee Hogner, a beloved family man and outdoorsman, passed away on July 12, 2025, at his home in Cookson, Oklahoma. Born on November 24, 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joe grew up in the rural area of Tahlequah, where he developed a lifelong passion for fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors.
A proud graduate of Connors State College, Joe earned a degree in blueprint drafting. He was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge.
Joe's love for his family was unmatched, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa Joe." He was delighted in taking them on adventures, whether it was fishing on the boat and pulling the kids behind him in the tube or riding four-wheelers through the countryside.
Joe's interests were diverse, and he enjoyed watching OU football, as well as other football games. He was a fan of classic westerns, including Gunsmoke, and admired the works of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Country music was another passion, with favorites like Hank Williams Sr., Conway Twitty, and Leon Russell. Thanksgiving was Joe's favorite holiday, a time when family gatherings brought him immense joy.
Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Erma L. Stone; his stepfather, Willard F. Stone; his biological father, Athel Hogner Jr.; and his brother, James Hogner.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hogner (McDaniel); his son, Justin Lee Hogner, and wife Amanda of Park Hill, Oklahoma; one brother, Mike Hogner of Oktaha, Oklahoma, one stepbrother Barry Stone and wife Cindy of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; his bonus family, including bonus son Dan Rose and wife Shelly of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; bonus daughters Lisa Warner of Vian, Oklahoma, Kim Gold of Vian, Oklahoma, and Tammy Sandlin and husband Randy of Vian, Oklahoma; nine bonus grandchildren; and twenty bonus great-grandchildren.
Joe's legacy will live on through the memories of those who knew him, and his love for family and the outdoors will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Joe. Your memory will be cherished forever.
Serving as Joe's pallbearers are Freddie Gannaway, Booray Gold, Tanner Gold, Travis Sandlin, Jake Sandlin, and Randy Sandlin. His honorary pallbearers include Justin Hogner and Dan Rose.
A time of visitation for Joe will be held on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025 at 10:00am at Cookson-Proctor Cemetery with Mr. Thomas Haning officiating.
