Joyce Marie (Roberts) Large, or Nan to her family and friends, was born on September 5th, 1939 in Collinsville, OK, the daughter of Leo and Gracie Bernice (Burton) Roberts. She grew up with three brothers and one sister, Jerry, Kenny, Shelby and Louise. She attended and graduated from high school and then she met and married her best friend, Robert Large. Together they raised a family of five children, four daughters and one son, Richard, Juanita, Cheryl, Joy Beth, and Sarah. She was a homemaker that enjoyed caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her house was the place where everyone went to be safe and feel loved. It was the place that you could get a snack and some sound advice, not to mention someone that laughed with you. She was “Nan” to her children, plus four generations and all of their friends. She was artistic, and enjoyed sketching with charcoal, watching the occasional odd soap opera on TV. She loved horse races and never missed watching the Kentucky derby and generally spent her days helping anyone that asked and those that didn’t. She was the constant, the smile, the voice, the cook, dishwasher, laundry operator, chauffeur, nurse, babysitter, tutor, there were no bounds to her talents or her love. Life wasn’t always easy, she lost her mother and father, her brother and one sister, and her husband, Robert. She kept her optimism, and loved her family and did what she could for everyone. She passed from this life on August 9th, 2023 in Tahlequah, OK. She was 83 years old. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Richard Large of Muskogee, OK, Cheryl Smith of Salina, OK, Joy Beth Monk and companion Bobby Hatcher of Coweta, OK, Sarah Whitlock and husband Sammy of Collinsville, OK, and Juanita Carlile of Meade, KS. She leaves two brothers, Jerry Roberts and wife Beverly of Reno, NV and Kenny Roberts and wife Sharon of Pryor, OK. She lives on in her twelve grandchildren, Heather, Brandon, Rachel, Cory, David, Jena, Chelsea, Kirstin, Arian, Derric, Gracey, and Colt. Her beloved great grandchildren include Bella, Olivia, Addison, Cody, Nevaeh, Tori, Halie, Aysson, Bentley Joe, Macie, Dayton, Dexter, Tyler, Mason, Sadie, Gracey, Dakota, Ryan, Dru and Dre, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 at 11:00am at Fairview Cemetery in Pryor, OK with Reverend David Wiens officiating.
