Mary Carolyn Collins, a woman of profound grace and poise, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 12th , 2024, surrounded by her loving family and her faithful companion, Kahlua. Born in 1933, Mary lived a life full of adventure, refinement, and the joy of family.
Mary was a devoted mother to her two children, a proud grandmother to two grandchildren, and was delighted by her five great-grandchildren. Just days before her passing, she had the profound joy of meeting her first great-great-grandchild, a moment that summarized her legacy of love and continuity.
Her passion for travel was legendary. Mary's journeys took her across the globe, where she reveled in exploring historical sites and immersing herself in the world's great museums. Her English and Irish heritage was a source of immense pride, often reflected in her love for classical and Celtic music, which filled her home with melody. Mary was not just an appreciator of the arts but also a participant, having played the clarinet in symphonies and the piano with great skill, endeavoring to impart this love of music to her progeny.
A true lover of literature, Mary could often be found lost in the pages of a book, her mind traveling through time and space. Her love for water was equally profound as she found peace and rejuvenation in swimming, often referring to herself as a "water baby".
Mary's life was a testament to the beauty of living fully in each moment, whether it was through her travels, her music, or the quiet times spent with her family. Her departure leaves a void, but her spirit will continue to live through the memories she created and the lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to local pet shelters, in honor of Mary's love for animals, particularly her beloved dog Kahlua, who was by her side until the end.
A private memorial will be held by the family to celebrate her life. Mary's legacy will continue in the hearts of those who knew her, in the melodies she loved, the stories she read, and the waters she swam. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
