Peggy Sue (Collins) Prewitt-Herber died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 18, 2025 at the age of 64, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Fayetteville, AR to Melville Dwayne Collins and Julia Marie (McDowell) Collins-Criag on December 7, 1960. Peggy was the eldest of five children and grew up in Fayetteville and West Fork, AR until 1977, when she moved to Dallas, TX. There she met some of her closest, lifelong friends.
Peggy’s children and grandson were the light of her life. She had her son, Rocky, in 1985, a sweet little girl, Letha, a few years later in 1990 and was later blessed with a bonus daughter, Carrie. She proudly wore the title of Mema after the arrival of her grandson, Ryan, in 2018.
She met her best friend and soulmate, Nick Herber, in 2013 and the two were joined in marriage, sharing many years of love and memories together. They liked to go fishing, to concerts and occasionally, she’d go hunting with him. That was until she saw a snake, and that was the end of that!
Peggy traveled all over the United States. She especially loved to travel by train, taking many train trips with her mom. Their adventures made for the best and most memorable experiences throughout her life. Her favorite animal was the peacock, with their beautiful array of emerald green, deep blue and purple feathers. She loved and collected everything peacock! A reflection of the same vibrance, her smile could brighten any room and possessed such a fun and lively spirit. She was always down for a great bloody mary and enjoyed good food but HATED yuckies (you know mushrooms).
A skilled crocheter, Peggy had the ability to whip up a blanket in no time flat! They were the biggest and best blankets, those nearest and dearest to her were blessed to receive one of these handmade treasures. Her absolute favorite pastime was to get on Facetime with her grandbaby, Ryan. He’d call and talk to her about all the things, all the time. He sure loved his Mema! Peggy spent countless hours researching her family genealogy and had a memory like you wouldn’t believe. She remembered every birthday and anniversary of anyone she met, a gift she got from her Mo.
Peggy is survived by her children, Rocky Prewitt Jr. of Tahlequah, OK, Letha Sanchez and husband Jason of San Antonio, TX and Carrie Chandler and husband Adam of Longview, TX, along with her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Sanchez of San Antonio, TX, Chloe and Kalen Chandler of Longview, TX. She also leaves her siblings, Ruth Lombard and husband Charles of Berryville, AR, RaLynn Boyd and husband Bill of DeLand, FL, Brian Craig and wife JoAnn of Siloam Springs, AR and Patrick George of Springdale, AR, one aunt, Marilyn Mahan of Springdale, AR, 13 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces, nephews and great great-nephews, several cousins including a special cousin, Patsy Brown and husband Gary, special friends, Lisa Hampton-Shell, Lisa Allen and Grace Barber as well as many other friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Melville Collins and Julia Collins-Criag, Daddy George and Momma Cleo Whitington, her husband, Nick Herber and three angel babies. She has gone on to join one brother, Jackie Wayne Collins, two nephews, Jeremiah Long and Isaac Collins, aunts, Betty Lawrence and Willeta Guthry, uncle, Kenneth McDowell, great uncle, Jack Mahan, several friends and cousins.
Funeral services for Peggy will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 2:00pm at Reed-Culver Chapel with Chaplain Kevin Webster officiating. Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation prior to services beginning at 10:00am until service time at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
