Shirley Ann McClure was born on November 28th, 1947, in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Herbert Homer and Mary Ann Hendricks. She grew up with three brothers and five sisters, in a very close family, Rufus, Terry, Gunter, Sue, Betty, Margie, Marilyn and Rebecca. When she finished going to school, she began dating a young man, Donald (Don) Eugene McClure. He certainly knew how to impress a young lady and showed up on his best horse, “Ol Joe” It worked! On May 29th, 1965, they were married and began a 60-year adventure in love, laughter and memories. They raised a family of three children, Donald James, Darryl Len, and Gwenette Sue. Shirley was first and foremost a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and loving friend. She worked at Woodall School and The All American Grill making some of the best home cooking you ever ate. Her peach cobbler was the best around, hands down. She was in the kitchen, baking and turning out dinners for her family and friends to enjoy all her lifetime. Shirley liked to tag along with Don to do a little fishing and was always sitting by his side watching rodeos on TV. She never missed the chance to do babysitting for the family, and they knew she would care for those children like they were her own. She was fiercely proud of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. If they were playing sports or attending an event at school, Shirley was there showing her pride and support. She served the Lord all the days of her life, and her and Don attended Crescent Valley Baptist Church.
Life wasn’t always easy, she watched her beloved Don, daughter, mom and dad, brothers, sisters, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins pass into the next world. She always showed her strength and remained close to the family she adored. The end came on April 15th, 2025, at her home in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by those who loved her most. She is now on the back of “Ol Joe”, riding the peaceful pastures with the man she devoted her life to on earth.
She is at home with Don, her daughter Gwen, her grandparents, her mother and father, her brother, Gunter Hendricks, two sisters, Marilyn Ballard and Rebecca Potts, and various aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved children, Donald James McClure and wife Jenifer of Ft. Gibson, OK, Darryl Len and wife Wendee of Tahlequah, OK. She leaves her brothers and sisters, Rufus Hendricks and wife Anita of Tahlequah, OK, Terry Hendricks of Tahlequah, Sue Ritchie of Tahlequah, Betty Stubbs of Muskogee, and Margie Stinnett and husband Jay of Hulbert. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Charlene Shaffer of Ft. Gibson and Norma Sue Brady and husband Chuck of Frisco, TX.
She will live on in her grandchildren, Samantha McClure and Dale, Jessica McClure and Brindalen, Wyatt McClure and Bailee, Blake Reynolds, and Dillon Rainbolt and Dallas. She also has ten great grandchildren, Kyle McClure, Keegan Russell, Lucy McClure, Lincoln McClure, Lux McClure, Ledger McClure, Addison Rainbolt, Ryan Rainbolt, Colton Wilson, and Jaxon Rainbolt, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host loved ones far too numerous to mention.
