

Steve Vann was born on August 20th, 1958, in Claremore, OK, the son of Jimmy and Lillie (Peters) Vann. He kept company with four brothers and three sisters, Jimmy Ray, Thoma, Henry, Roy, Barbara, Sarah and Cindy. He attended Westville School and later completed his studies. He earned his living as a transportation industry worker, driving truck. He was a proud father of twelve sons and two daughters, Eddie, Dwight, Kyle, Gilbert, Radomes, Wilson, Eric, Ogun, Henry, Joseph, Robert, Kywin, Kathryn and Rakell. When he wasn’t providing for his family, he was teaching them the traditions of the Cherokee People. He excelled at the cooking recipes and style of his family and loved to cook for anyone lucky enough to get an invite to dinner. In school, Steve loved sports, especially football. This love of sports followed throughout his lifetime, always watching a good game on TV,as well as car shows, drag races, or anything with a motor. He loved guns and learning anything to do with them. He was known for tinkering on various things around the place, both inside and out. Family was the best part of any day and his brothers and children were his best friends. The visits were daily and the joking and laughter were everywhere. Steve was so very proud of being Cherokee, being raised Cherokee and Cherokee as his first language. His grandchildren were his next project for passing down all the skills and traditions he had accumulated. A Christian by faith, he was a member of the Illinois River Baptist Church. He served the Lord with his time and talent, whenever asked. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from his labors on January 21st, 2022 in Watts, OK. Steve was 63 years old and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, his wife, his son, Radomes, his brother, Jimmy Vann, and his sister, Sarah Vann.
He lives on in his children, Eddie Vann of Montana, Dwight Vannof Arkansas, Kyle of Flintridge, Gilbert of Chewey, Wilson of Stilwell, Eric of Tulsa, Ogun of the home in watts, Henry of the home, Joseph of the home, Robert of the home and Kywin of the home. He also leaves his daughters, Kathryn Vann of Tulsa and Rakell of Watts. He leaves his brothers and sisters, Thomas Vann and wife Janice of Claremore, Henry Vann and wife Sharon of Tahlequah, Roy Vann of Tahlequah, Barbara Littledeer and husband Rufus of Siloam Springs, AR, and Cindy Vann of Claremore. He will live on in his grandchildren, Saharra Henson of Oklahoma City, Amberlee Vann of Stilwell, Teagan Vann of Stilwell, Ayden Vann of Stilwell, and Jaden Vann of Flintridge, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services for Steve Vann will be held on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Illinois River Baptist Church with Brother Dennis Sixkiller officiating. The family will have a visitation on Monday, January 31st, 2022 at Reed-Culver Chapel from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. His honorary pallbearers include Curtis Baldridge, Mike Cooksey, Ducky Russell, Andy Hair, Esic Hair, Booksie Harlan, Jody Bird and Andrew Bird.
