Troy's early years were shaped by his education at Stone Chapel Elementary and Bagley High School. He went on to work in the refinery oil industry and later became a farmer, where he developed a passion for working the land and raising cattle. Troy also loved vacations to Branson, MO, and Silver Dollar City, where they would create lasting memories. Christmas was a special time for Troy, and he loved seeing the family and enjoying traditional holiday dishes.
Troy was known for his frugal ways, often finding creative ways to save money on family vacations. He would hide the kids in the backseat to avoid extra charges at motels, and one time, he even hid in the trunk to avoid paying admission during a drive-in movie. These antics showcased his playful and humorous side.
As an ordained minister, Troy was proud of his service to the community and the people he touched through his faith. He loved hosting family dinners in the garage, where laughter and good food brought everyone together. Troy's sense of humor was legendary, and he often joked with his family and friends. He was also known for his mischievous ways during dominoes games, often claiming to have a few dominoes up his sleeve.
Troy's hobbies included playing the guitar, singing, playing dominoes, dice, pitch, and checkers. He was a fan of professional boxing and wrestling, particularly WWF, and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and OU football. His love for music was evident in his fondness for Christian and country music, and he would often sing along to Johnny Cash. He even had the opportunity to see Johnny Cash at a concert at Spring Lake Amusement Park in Oklahoma City. To this day, his children fondly remember him singing a familiar tune about "Cripple Creek," a song that has become a cherished family memory and a nostalgic reminder of happy times spent together.
In his final days, Troy's family was by his side, and just a few days before his passing, he debated taking a trip to Texas with his wife Faye to see her sister, a testament to his enduring spirit.
