Wanda Mae Carson was born on November 12th, 1926 in Cherokee County, OK, the daughter of Charlie Clinton and Amy Emiline (Cain) Carson. She attended Carter School and grew up with her brothers and sisters, Everett Carson, Helen, Lois Ann, Mary Ellen, Ray and Fred (Twins) Charles, and J.D. Her mother became very ill and resulted in her being moved to a TB Sanitarium. Wanda had to leave school at the start of 8th grade and stay home with all the younger children and take care of the family. Her mothers health deteriorated and she passed away leaving Wanda to be mother to her brothers and sisters. Wanda was not thrilled with the hand life had dealt her, but she accepted the challenge, squared her shoulders, and took on the challenge. This attitude served her well all the days of her life. Upon the kids growing old enough to be on their own, she began working at the little downtown grocery store in Tahlequah. She later changed her career to working for Campbell’s Soup Company in Fayetteville, AR. She worked mostly on the assembly lines but could work just about any place she was sent. J.D. and Charles moved in with her and she spent her spare time caring for her two brothers. She was a woman who enjoyed the simple things of life, the view from her front porch, daily reading her Bible or anything else she could find to read, and listening to Elvis singing every single song he ever recorded, she loved them all. She was strong, she had to be. There was nothing on her mind that she wouldn’t share with you at a moments notice. She loved her family unconditionally, and she never hesitated to let them know how much she cared. She loved having them pop in for dinner so she could make them her famous Mexican Casserole, or work one of her miracles with a canned ham, or bake you one of her chocolate cakes! Life wasn’t always easy for Wanda. Her daughter died at a young age tragically. This caused her a great deal of suffering. Yet she found a way to rise above. Her faith came from her church family, and she was a Charter Member of Carter Baptist Church, and she adored the church family she leaned on. Her health began to fail her and she passed from this life on May 25th, 2022 in Tahlequah, OK. She was 95 years old and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, grandparents, her loving daughter Patricia, and all of her brothers and sisters, Everett Carson, Helen Finney, Mary Ellen Boswell, Ray and Fred Carson, twins, Charles Carson, and J.D. Carson.
She lives on in her two grandchildren, David Perryman and wife Carrie of Fairland, OK, and Cheri Rubink. She also leaves her great grandchildren, Megan Perryman, and Boone Perryman, Kelcie Turnbow, Jacob Turnbow and Peyton Rubink, and a very special note of thanks to Leah Foster, for the hours of love and care given daily in the care of Wanda, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
