On March 6, 1944 a blessing was bestowed upon Mr. A. J. Carter, Sr. and Mrs. Flossie Brinson Carter who they named A. J. Carter, Jr. born in Alapaha, Georgia. He was the third born of his siblings. Both parents preceded him in death along with his brother Mickey Carter and brother-in-law V. Joseph Shipman.
As a child he grew up in a little country town called Alapaha, Berrien County, Georgia. He attended school in Berrien County, and was the Valedictorian in the class of 1962.
As a youth he became a Member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and his support to the church was faithful for many years until his untimely death on January 22, 2022. He also attended The United Church of Tallahassee, Florida.
A. J. entered into the United States Air Force on May 29, 1962 where he was a jet engineer mechanic. He served his country until June 29, 1966.
Upon leaving the military he began a new career at The Macy's Department store in New York City and later began to work as a mail handler with The United States Postal Service where he was employed until his retirement in 2001.
On July 9, 1976, A. J. met and fell in love with Barry Laster and this relationship continued until his death. He was a devoted partner and companion for 45 wonderful years.
He was the devoted grandson to the late Mrs. Peggy Walker and a loving and caring son to his parents, especially to his mother when her health began to fail her.
He loved and cared for all of his many little fury friends (His dogs) Sheba, Samson I, Tracee, Samson II, Cody Mae and Samson Ill.
He also helped Barry with all the many parakeets they loved and cared for especially the ones that could speak and sing.

(Maxine) Carter of Nashville, Georgia. Mrs. Peggy Shipman of Roswell, Georgia, Mr. Samuel (Sharine) Carter of Augusta, Georgia.
Seven sister-in-law's: Mrs. Barbara Carter of Fitzgerald, Georgia., Janice Matthews, Denise Laster, Darlene Laster, Donna Laster, Alicia Laster all of New York City,and Keena Laster of Delaware. Two brothers: Mr. Milton (Shawn) Laster of Maryland and Mr. Michael (Jodi) Laster of Tallahassee, Florida. A loving and devoted Aunt; Mrs. Earnestine Mitchell of Alapaha, Georgia, Mrs. Frances Carter, Mrs. Marion Ivery both of Alapaha, Georgia.
Nieces and Nephews: Chief Of Tifton Police Department: Mr. Stevie Hyman of Tifton, Georgia. Mrs. Erika (Darrell) Murphy of Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. John Joseph (Stacy) Shipman of Duluth, Georgia. Special Cousins: Clementia Carter of Alapaha, Georgia. and Johnnie Mae of Thompson, Georgia. As well as a host of great nieces and nephews, cousin and friends.
