Born in Mankato, MN on November 22, 1941 to James (“William”) and Ione Henry. Alice attended Mankato State University earning her B.S. degree in 1963. Shortly after college she moved to Miami, Florida and worked in accounting roles for a number of years. On September 19, 1981 she married the love of her life Roger A. Tompkins in Elk River, MN in front of family and friends. Eventually Alice and Roger made their home in Tallahassee where Roger worked in the Fire Marshall’s office and Alice the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. They shared 29 great years together.
Alice is remembered as an intelligent, loving, generous and passionate person. She was an active sports & entertainment enthusiast, especially American football where she was truly an expert - more than many of the professionals. She also had you covered if you missed an episode of the Bachelor! Her education and political science knowledge were also prevalent . If you had a question around election time, Alice was the go-to person – regardless of the side of the aisle you were on. She loved to travel and tell stories of the amazing experiences she had with Roger, grandson Bryon, and with her Mom, in particular.
Alice was preceded in death by husband Roger Tompkins, parents Bill and Ione Henry, stepson Thomas Tompkins, brother George Hackett and is survived by sister Shirley Hedtke (Rick), Don Henry (Arlene), stepson John Tompkins (Ruth), grandsons Bryon (Bobbi) and Paul Tompkins, great grand daughter BryAnn, many nieces and nephews and special friends Naomi Thomas, Marilyn Crofts, Deborah Cruger.
We were all so very lucky to have Alice in our lives. We will miss her deeply and cherish the memories we shared with her. We also rejoice as Roger welcomes her back to a better place by his side as we know how very much they missed each other.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CulleysMeadowWoodFuneral.com for the Tompkins family.
