She was the daughter of Darnie C. Brown, Sr. and Artre Mae Gaines Brown and was born in Greenville, Florida. She was a graduate of of Jerkins High School in Perry, Florida and Florida A & M University in Tallahassee.
She was a long term employee of the Taylor County School System. Her church affiliation included membership with Bethel AME Church for over 65 years.
Altermease is remembered forever by her daughter, Lenora of Tallahassee, Florida; son, Roderick, Sr. (Dorothy) of Tallahassee, Florida; brother, Virdin C. Brown of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Allen, Sr.; son, Leroy Allen, Jr.; father and mother, Darnie C., Sr. and Artie Mae Gaines Brown; brother, Darnie C., Jr. (Jamesetta); sisters, Earlean Mobley (Edward) and Marion Owens; and her grandson, Victor L. Allen.
In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Big Bend Hospice in honor of Altermease.
