

Barbara Gayle Sneed (formerly Woodward), 77, passed away in her sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia on Friday, February 9, 2024, in the comfort of her home of Tallahassee surrounded by loved ones.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all. She was a passionate life-long learner with an Associate of Arts degree from Young Harris College, Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College, and Masters of Education from Berry College. She received one of the last life-time teaching certificates issued by the state of Georgia in 1974. A long career of 39 years in elementary education with a focus on First grade culminated with her retirement from Garrison-Pilcher Elementary School in Thomasville, GA in 2006. Previous locations she taught include Tallahassee, FL; Cedartown, GA; Dalton, GA; and China Lake, CA.
She was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. Personal passions included spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family. Earlier in her life she was deeply involved in her church’s choir, playing the clarinet and the piano, gardening, reading, classic movies, crossword puzzles, and enjoying the time shared over the years with the following pets: Bach, Ms. Kitty, Muffin, Smokey, Charlie, and Mia.
Barbara was predeceased by her father, Van Curtis Woodward, and mother, Sarah Gayle Woodward (formerly Merritt). She is survived by her husband, Michael Sneed; and children, Heather Sneed-Lee (Tallahassee), Matthew Sneed (Kauai, Hawaii); son-in-law, Thomas Lee; daughter-in-law, Anabele Sneed; grandchildren, Marissa, Jaxon, Zayley, Seraphina, Faith, Scarlett, and Maverick; sister-in-law, Sheilah Hampton (Murphy, NC); and nephew, Jarrad Hampton (Yulee, FL). A heartfelt thank you for the excellence in care of Barbara by Brenda and others at Healing By Nature Senior Care, the volunteers with Meals on Wheels, and Amy R. and others at Big Bend Hospice.
Visitation will be from 4pm - 7pm on Tuesday, February 20th, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL. The family will receive friends during the visitation service. Final viewing will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 23rd at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, NC with funeral services at the grave site followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery.
