
Betty G. Cahill, resident of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on July 21, 2015. She was the devoted wife of Retired USAF Colonel Joseph E. Cahill, loving mother and grandmother. Betty was born on December 22, 1925 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was the 6th of 7 children born to George H. Smith and Mary E. Smith. She was the last surviving member of their family.
Mrs. Cahill attended Sacred Heart School, Immaculata High School and St. Mary’s College. On November 24, 1945, she married First Lieutenant , Joseph E. Cahill in Amarillo, Texas. As an Air Force wife for over 30 years, she created a home for her family around the world, throughout the United States as well as tours in England, Hawaii, and Germany. She was very active volunteering in the military community as well as supporting her children’s activities.
Mrs. Cahill resided in Tallahassee, Fl since 1975. She was a member of the Hibiscus Garden Club, Springtime Tallahassee, Town Club, Retired Officers Wives Association and an avid FSU Football Booster. She was a lifelong member of Good Shepard Catholic Church. She and her beloved husband, Joe, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary weeks before his passing in 2010.
Mrs. Cahill is the mother of the following children: Catherine L. Cahill (deceased), Patrick J. Cahill, Polly Cahill Beckett, Michael G. Cahill and Coco Cahill Murray and the following grandchildren, Katherine L. Beckett, Sean M. Cahill, Ryan D. Beckett, Daniel J. Cahill, Jake C. Murray, and Joseph (Chase) Murray.
Visitation will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home 700 Timberlane Road, Friday July 24th from 5:00 – 7:00 beginning with a Rosary from 5:00 to 5:15. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Good Shepard Catholic Church 4665 Thomasville Road at 1:00 pm Saturday with burial following at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse of the Big Bend to assist those visually impaired.
